Patients often inquire about the causes & treatments for tired-looking eyes like wrinkles, hollow areas, or dark circles. My podcast addresses these queries.
Very often, I’m asked by patients about treatment for and causes of their tired-looking eyes.
Tired-looking eyes may mean different things for different patients. Tired-looking eyes may indicate wrinkles or appear hollow due to loose skin, skin pigmentation, fine lines, or eye bags.
Causes of tired eyes
Some of the most common reasons for tired-looking eyes are ageing. As we age, we lose volume under the eyes, which results in tear trough formation or eye circles.
Loss of skin elasticity may also cause a noticeable depression under the eyes, known as skin laxity, making the skin around the eyes appear thinner and saggy.
Some other factors, such as weight loss, sleep deprivation, smoking, caffeine, alcohol, and others. And most importantly, genetics.
5 popular treatments in Singapore to rejuvenate tired-looking eyes

We need to understand the patients’ concerns and objectives when they complain of tired-looking eyes, so we can tailor suitable treatments to address their concerns.
To address several causes of eye issues, including volume loss, skin changes, pigmentation changes, wrinkles, and fine lines, we must target each cause and address its underlying causes to rejuvenate the area.
Fine lines and wrinkles can be easily treated with injections of botulinum toxins.
For volume loss, hollowness and tear trough, these conditions need to be treated differently. In my clinic, I use the EyeArt Method (Tear Trough Fillers) treatment, which utilises injectable fillers to achieve a natural rejuvenation around the eye area.
This is done by allowing for multi-layering and using very fine blunt cannulas to inject microdroplets, thereby reducing the risk of bruising, swelling, and unevenness.
Lastly, a multi-dimensional technique is used to address 3-dimensional skin and tissue around the eyes, aiming to leave the skin looking healthier, reduce fine lines, and improve discolouration.

One of the latest treatments for volume loss, hollowness, and tear trough is biostimulator injections. This treatment stimulates the rejuvenation of collagen tissue around the eyes, making it more elastic, smoother, and youthful.
For those suffering from loose, saggy skin or loss of collagen and elastic tissue, the skin around the eyes can be tightened using various methods.
The other popular eye aesthetics method we use for our patients is Ultherapy, also known as ultrasound treatment, which tightens the skin through collagen stimulation.
Tissue growth, skin tightening, and skin texture improvements can also be achieved through what we call RF microneedling. Radiofrequency Microneedling involves using a combination of fine needles and radiofrequency energy to stimulate skin rejuvenation and, hence, improve the texture and contour of the skin around the eyes.
