Common misconceptions of fat grafting in Singapore

Even though fat grafting remains a popular treatment choice in Singapore, misconceptions persist. Listen to the podcast as I separate fact from fiction.

Fat grafting is a procedure in which doctors harvest excess fat from one part of the body and use it for corrective or augmentation purposes in another area.

Fat grafting to be used for enhancement & correction

Corrective work can address issues such as scars from acne or surgery, asymmetry, and other irregularities. The harvested fat can be used to fill in gaps, recontour the face or body, and improve unevenness.

Augmentation work, on the other hand, is aimed at enhancing the size or shape of specific body parts, such as breast augmentation to increase breast size, buttock enhancements, or reshaping facial features to create a more youthful appearance.

Fat grafting process: How it works

Fat grafting typically involves:

  •  Liposuction to remove fat cells and layers
  • The removed fat is then processed to concentrate and prepare the fat for transfer.
  • The fat will be injected into different areas of the body or face to achieve the desired results.

To perform fat grafting, it is essential to select areas with healthy and sufficient fat cells. For example, suppose breast augmentation requires approximately 600 ml of fat. In that case, we must locate areas with enough fat available for harvesting, typically from larger regions such as the hips, waist, or abdomen.

Once the fat cells are harvested, they undergo a cleaning and processing phase to prepare them for injection. This is done using tiny needles or cannulas to deliver the fat into the targeted areas effectively.
