There are two popular choices when it comes to body sculpting and fat loss. One is VASER Liposuction and the other fat freezing. Many patients have asked me lengthy questions about their differences during our consultation in my clinic. I have decided to pen it for your convenience.
What is VASER Liposuction and Fat freezing?
Vaser Liposuction
Vaser Liposuction is a minimally invasive treatment aimed at body contouring and reduction of localised body fat layers. It can be done with minimal or no sedation at all as the treated areas will be anesthetised with the patient, not feeling the pain. The process involves using small probes to transmit the ultrasound energy and liquefy fat cells prior to removal via a gentle suction process.
Fat Freezing
Fat freezing works by delivering a carefully controlled cooling mechanism to target the fat cells underneath the skin. Freezing the fat cells may lead to ‘liquid crystallization’ within the fat cells and hence leading to cell injury and death. Post-treatment your body will begin to eliminate the dead fat cells, which reduce the amount of fat cells in your body.
2) What are the differences between the two?
VASER Liposuction
• Single treatment
• Fat reduction is significant and permanent
• Any body areas can be treated
• Some degree of downtime
• Precise body contouring is possible
Fat Freezing
• Multiple treatment may be required
• Up to 20% fat cell reduction
• Treatment areas are limited to application heads
• Minimal or no downtime
• Not for precise body contouring
Does our clinic offer both services?
Yes, we do. Our doctor will discuss with the patient’s options best suited for them, based on their needs and physical condition.
Which is more popular in your clinic? VASER liposuction of fat freezing?
As our clinic offers both treatments, we are able to offer more balanced and unbiased advices to patients who seek body shaping treatment based on their expectations and needs.
For example, if a patient walks in with thick layers of fat around her abdomen, waist and hips, asking for ‘dramatic’ fat reduction and enhanced body re-shaping before her wedding in 2 months’ time, we would likely suggest VASER liposuction for her. On the other hand, if we have a relatively fit patient who eats and lives healthily, looking to further ‘reduce’ her small bulge of lower abdominal fat in 4-6 months’ time, then we will probably start her on fat freezing programs.
To answer the question, the majority of our patients over the many years of our practice opted for VASER liposuction over fat freezing or other non-surgical fat treatment.
There were serveral reasons for that. The majority of our patients wanted to see a dramatic improvement in their body contour, in a relatively short period of time. In these scenarios, vaser liposuction would be the best option for the patients.
VASER Liposuction in the vast majority of cases will only need one treatment and multiple areas can be treated in the same procedure. Fat layers that are removed by Vaser liposuction will never ‘return’, regardless of future weight fluctuations.
Despite its attractive price tag, Fat freezing has the potential to end up costing more in the long run as you will need multiple treatments over a few months and even worse, multiple ‘treatment spots’ may be required in a single area if the areas are too large.
At the same time, for those looking to treat smaller areas of stubborn fat we instead offer MicroLipo (Microcannular Tumescent Liposuction) which is the least invasive liposuction treatment available. Perfect for smaller areas such as your chin, arms and abdomen, it is able to remove stubborn fat using microcannulas which results in a reduced downtime with many patients returning to work 24 hours after treatment.
Overall, as a clinic, we believe it is extremely important to understand the needs and expectations of our patients and match them properly with the appropriate treatment.
I cannot stress enough on the fact that because my clinic offers both VASER Liposuction and Fat freezing treatment, we will be able to provide more comprehensive, balanced and unbiased advices to patients seeking for body contouring treatments.
